Frequently asked questions
Will compressing reduce image quality?
Some, depending on the quality level you choose. JPEG compression is "lossy," so very low quality settings introduce visible blockiness. 70–85% is usually indistinguishable from the original at normal viewing sizes.
What's the difference between compressing and resizing?
Compressing keeps the same pixel dimensions but reduces file size by simplifying the data. Resizing actually shrinks the width and height. Use our Resize Image tool if you need smaller dimensions too.
Does this work for PNG screenshots?
Yes, PNG files are compressed losslessly using a different method than JPEG, so transparency is preserved and there's no color artifacting.
